hello again, everyone. back with some tiny updates, but some updates nonetheless. primarily, i made a cute little webring! i'll detail the why's in the next section, but for now, click the link up above to check it out & see if you'd want to join. :) it's for fans of neopets & its clones with pretty loose requirements to be involved; possibly in the future, i may make more specific & guided rings, but for now, i just wanted to see if i could do it & wanted to pick something nice 'n' easy for the theme. it was a lot of fun! and easier than i thought it would be, thanks to the premade framework provided by onion garden. ( links to that are on the webring, if you're curious about it. )
besides that, just some wee tweaks here & there. this was all inspired by a singular event, which i suppose i should get into now ...
what's new with me?
as some of you may know, the indie socmed cohost is going into read-only mode tomorrow ( oct 1st ) and will be fully shut down at the end of the year. as far as social media experiences go, it was a pretty good one -- smaller + leftwing audience meant that the atmosphere was a lot calmer than some other places ( not to say it was perfect, of course, but my god was it amazing compared to things like twitter ) and i'm kind of sad to see it go. it's hard to stay connected to friends these days when both tumblr & twitter ( my circle's main places of socializing ) are frustrating or depressing for me to use, and i was holding out hope that we'd all eventually migrate over to cohost. alas, it was not meant to be, and another beautiful internet project is being snuffed out due to monetary woes.
anyway, a significant portion of cohost users are / were interested in programming, webdev, and decentralized internet experiences. this means that, in these last few final weeks of Posting, dozens & dozens of people were sharing some of their favorite online tools & tricks for making your own website -- and so, i've been compiling as many of those as i could on my links page. there's lots of interesting stuff there now -- and hopefully i'll be able to get a few more things before the site goes down for good -- so i hope, if you have an interest in making a site but have been scared to for XYZ reasons, these new resources will help guide you to success.
something else that's been brought up during this time was webrings. i was familiar with them, but not really interested in joining any, mostly because 1) i don't really have any friends to join one with, and 2) i had no idea how to go looking for them. but as cohost's demise comes closer & closer, several people fronted the idea that we should make a cohost webring -- and so i started looking into it more. turns out, making them is easy as pie, and quite fun! as i mentioned above, it was a breeze thanks to pre-existing easy-to-edit frameworks, and i love little gimmick projects like this. so ... while other people were making cohost webrings for a good cause ... i was making ... a random ass neopets webring! just cuz!!
so thank you cohost for inspiring me to get back into working on this website, even if it was tangential & not at all involved with any of the main projects i've been trying to finish for ... erm ... years!! oops!!!!
that's mainly the reason for today's entry. wanted to plug my webring & said adieu to the funny maroon website. i suppose i should mention that fall is here where i am -- officially & otherwise -- and it's really putting a pep in my step. i hate summer so much, but fall is like ... just so healing & invigorating. we're going to cook up the rest of our apples from our tree, make soups & breads, decorate for halloween, and enjoy the cooler weather!! yahoo!!
... although now that i'm saying it, we've been trying to get in contact with an electrician ( for weeks!!! -_- ) to help us set up a generator; the area we live in is ripe for windstorms & lengthy power outages, and the windy season is going to rear its head in the next month. it's been quite frustrating & stressful, i gotta say, but i'm coming to terms with living without power if we just can't find anyone in time. hey -- if you're reading this & you play a lot of TTRPGs, give me your suggestions for your favorite simple games ( fantasy preferred ). it might be fun to roleplay the days away if we're stuck in the dark for a while ...
alright alright, that's it. no more for today. thanks for taking a look, and i'll see you all again later! take care!
