october updates

2023 oct 23

feels like forever since i wrote one of these, likely because i took a little break from working on the site for a couple weeks. i figured when i came back, the list of updates wouldn't be too long ... but my notes say otherwise. let's get to it!

what's new with the site? [1] when updating my RSS feed files, they were not updating in readers. i'm still not even sure what the issue was in the first place, but i've totally redone my RSS feeds, which are now hopefully functional. i apologize for the inconvenience, but if you followed them prior to this, please refollow my feeds to stay up to date; i won't be remaking them anymore in the future if issues arise again, so this should ( hopefully ) be the only time you need to do this. sorry!!

[2] although the layouts are mostly the same, i have made significant changes to the backend of the OC profile pages. i'm now using iframes as a way to not only de-clutter each section, but also make editing individual sub-sections MUCH less tedious. although there's still work to be done, i hope this new layout makes things more readable for you all! if you'd like to see an example, devyn's page is mostly up and running. :-)

[3] i have made a similar switch to iframe with my blog pages. this will make accomodating site-wide style changes less of a pain, as well as allowing you to link to individual entries. ( these entries are lacking proper style sheets though ... so ... SIGH. i'll figure it out eventually. )

... whew. 😪💨

"but what about your art page?!" you say, staring discontently at its ever lifeless body. and listen, i hear you -- i did say in my last entry that that was my next goal. but i got overwhelmed with planning and decided to move on to smaller, more immediately manageable tasks. you understand, right ... ?

the good news is that i genuinely have a plan for how i want to set it up now. i was begrudging the idea of individually making thumbnails for every drawing i uploaded, but i have since found a way to automate that process; i also have the means of setting up a simple tagging system for sorting purposes. no idea when i can get started on all that, but it's on my radar.

besides that ... i really want to start writing game reviews again. i have a lot lined up that i want to talk about, but i keep spending all my energy fuddling around with the site rather than making actual content for it. ah well. c'est la vie!

what's new with me?

i had kind of a rough month, but i'm doing alright now, for the most part. we decorated our house for fall, and decided to buy some outdoor decorum in anticipation of halloween ... we also bought special luxury candies again ... last year, we skipped giving out treats since the year prior we had so few trick-or-treaters; despite having our lights off though, a single, very tiny kid came to our door, proclaiming our house was, quote, "my favorite" -- as you can imagine, the devestation that wrought on me was substantial. i have since sworn to always stock up on funny imported snacks and goodies for the holiday ... even if there's only one kid who comes by, i want to have something fun to give them!

anyway. remember tears of the kingdom? and how i'm, like, still playing it? yeah. still not done. the end is on the horizon, but i just love meandering too much. sorry! i've also started another game the play alongside it. oops!!

it's pokemon sword ... but i modded it! i'm quite happy! i'm also doing custom texture edits for "disappointing" shinies, which i'm going to release eventually as a public mod -- inspired by my curiosity into editing textures, learning how easy it was to do, and then altering shiny gengar ( my favorite pokemon, never shiny hunted for it before because the color is so disappointing ). also i learned how to hack pokemon games and create evil pokemon or give myself a million items. heh! i'm not interested in cheating for the most part, though ... but i did give myself a shiny charm early, and will be breeding for my new and improved shiny gengar!!! i'll write more about all this in another article, perhaps, once i'm done with the texture edits.

but yeah. that's been pretty refreshing. i love pokemon ... i know many older fans are disenfranchised with it, but i find the base concept so appealing i don't really care. i'm also very sympathetic to game development, even if it's being backed by one of the wealthiest IPs on the planet -- if you hate the game that much, imagine how god damn bad the people making it feel. you know?

that's all i've got for today, though ... thanks for sticking around and reading. have a great rest of your fall / spring, and if you celebrate -- happy halloween! 🦇😱🍬
