just doodling. visiting my younger designs for corrinthe & mina to try & think about what i want to convey with them ... i keep changing my mind for why mina cuts her hair when she gets older, but it has to do with how she interprets what "feminine" / "female" means & the baggage that comes with that. corrinthe here dresses as gender-neutrally as she can get away with originally with encouragement from her mom, combining male & female clothes from her family's vaults. both of them have complex relationships to their genders based on their specific cultures & upbringings, and i want to make sure & show some of that struggle through the changes in their designs ...
tangentially: among the things i dislike about my own design sensibilities is my need to color-coordinate everything. i am often very concerned with maintaining palettes & keeping color counts minimal, instead of thinking realistically about what a character would wear & why. in this case, both of these two are wearing custom garbs, so colors can be coordinated to an extent & still feel grounded ... but i don't know ... is it too immersion breaking that everyone dresses in such clear sets of colors?
anyway.
